By bus

In most of the more substantial towns (Ioannina, Igoumenitsa, Preveza) a bus service to Paramithia is available. If you are travelling from another destination, take a bus to the village of Neraida (on the main road between Ioannina and Igoumenitsa) and change buses there. From Paramithia buses to Suli are running several times. Ask at local bus stations or at the offices of the National Tourist Organisation for these buses before leaving.

By foot

The village of Gliki is the starting point of our walk to Suli. At the southern end of the village the street is crossing the Acheron river. We start at the restaurant, located there. At the south side of the river is a path, following the river towards the mountains. This is still a way for cars, running on the same level above the river constantly. Ignore all the ways branching off down to the river or up into the mountains. After about an hour of walking you will reach a tunnel(!), cross it and enter a foot-path. It is the old path, connecting Suli with the flatlands. The river is now deep below you, and it takes some time until the path brings you to a place, where two bridges are crossing the Acheron and one of its affluents. From now on the going up is very steep. If you walk this path in the opposite direction, you can not miss it, but this way it is hard not to loose one´s bearings. Go on upwards, turning around the mountain counterclockwise. For reaching the village of Samoniva you have to climb over a slope. The path turns now into a little road, and the village of Suli is in a short distance to the left.

  • Make sure that you take enough water with you!
  • Wear the right shoes!
  • It's a long way! Stay overnight in the village, instead of walking back exhausted.
  • The mountains of Suli are the home of rare, but also sometimes dangerous animals. Don`t be afraid of the local wolfes, but take care of snakes! Walk with loud and strong steps!
